Our School

The High school of Kompoti, named ?Nikolaos Skoufas? was established in 1979 and it had been functioning as a branch of the second High School of Arta for 4 years. It has been functioning as an independent school since 1983 and in 2007, under the headmaster?s initiative it was given the name ?Nikolaos Skoufas?, after Nikolas Skoufas (1779-1818) the founder of ?Filiki Etairia? (a secret organization that fought for the freedom of Greece).

In 1992, it acquired its own facilities since until 1992 it was housed in the building of the Junior High School. Kompoti High school has students from the district of Kompoti (Kompoti, Sellades, Foteino) and from villages of the neighboring prefecture of Aitoloakarnania (Menidi, Floriada, Chrisopigi). The High School has between 100 and 130 students, but in the school year of 1997-1998 the students were about 170. The teaching staff has been between 17 and 20 teacher for 9 consecutive years (from 1997-1998 to 2006-2007).

     School facilities include:

In the school year 2006-2007 the State Housing Agency constructed a multi-purpose room, satisfying a long-lasting demand of the school community, in order to cover the needs of both schools (high school and junior high school).

Generally, the High School of Kompoti is supposed to be successful because over a quarter of the pupils excels every year in internal examinations and, furthermore, half of its graduates enter a university school among their first choices. Apart from this main goal, our school developed and continues to develop a variety of activities (cultural, sport , entertaining, educational and social), which aim at revealing the hidden skills and talents of the students. In this way students are given the opportunity to express themselves in a different way and get involved with and bestir themselves in fields which play an important role in their physical and mental development and their personal fulfillment.

For this purpose, our school carries out different kinds of programs, for example, the organization of cultural, educational and entertaining activities, which utilize the musical and artistic skills of its students. In addition, it organizes educational school trips, participates in competitions, (in which it has achieved notable distinctions at times),a program called ?youth parliament? every year, in school sport competitions in the prefecture of  Arta, as well as at a national level. It also has an active role in the municipality?s cultural events such as ?Skoufaika? (a celebration honouring Nikolaos Skoufas), traditional dances taking place at the central square in national celebrations and the carnival parade.

The highlight of these activities was the fraternization of our school with the corresponding school in Odessa, which took place in September 2003 thanks to the initiative of the headmaster Giannelos Konstantinos.
